Dr Aras Selvi passed his viva! His thesis, “Models and Algorithms for Safeguarded Data-Driven Decision Making”, studies optimal ethical decision-making (most notably, differential privacy and optimal and fair housing), robust machine learning (Wasserstein mixed-feature models and ambiguity sets constructed from intersections of Wasserstein balls), as well as novel techniques to tackle convex maximisation problems. Very well done, Dr Aras!
Aras will shortly commence his 1-year post-doctoral studies at Princeton University, and then he will start as a tenure track assistant professor at UCL’s School of Management next year.
